Hauck has licensed a revolutionary technology for regenerative combustion systems. Ideally designed for the steel and aluminum industries, the EcoReg® Continous Rotary Regenerator offers higher heat recovery than conventional regenerators. Licensed from Jasper GmbH, this proven rotary generator technology eliminates the need for cycling valves and minimizes the process time lost in the switching cycle.
No ancillary flues are required; 100 % of the flue gas passes through the regenerator. Additionally, the EcoReg® does not require burner pairs – allowing for optimum burner placement in the furnace design.
The EcoReg® is also designed to be used for heat recovery on large capacity furnaces in place of a recuperator. The air pipework can be connected to an unlimited quantity of burners placed to maximize furnace efficiency. When used with Hauck’s newest burner, the TriOx, the EcoReg® installation can provide maximum combustion efficiency with low NOx emissions
The EcoReg® is available in 8 sizes for gas and oil fired burner systems. Maximum power output ranges from 4 million to 82 million Btu/hr (1.2 to 24 MW).
For additional information on this latest technology for the steel and aluminum industries, please contact Mike Shay, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Hauck Manufacturing.

Hauck has developed a new ultra low NOx gas burner, the TriOx. The TriOx utilizes a three-staged air injection design for maximum production efficiency while minimizing NOx emissions - as low as 20 ppm or less - even with high temperature preheated air. The burner is capable of low excess air operation (5%) throughout its entire operating range, resulting in outstanding fuel efficiency. The TriOx is ideally suited for industrial heat processes in excess of 1600ºF (870ºC) including aluminum furnaces, steel reheat furnaces, thermal fluid heaters and other high temperature heat processes requiring ultra low NOx emissions. The burner is capable of efficient operation with a 10:1 on ratio turndown.
In addition to its operating efficiency, the TriOx offers excellent flame safety. The burner produces a visible, scannable pilot flame throughout its entire operating range, even when operating in the Invisiflame™ mode.
The TriOx is available in four sizes with capacities ranging from 5 to 20 million Btu/hour (1,300 to 5,900 kW). Contact Hauck for additional information on this outstanding new addition to the Company's line of burner products.

If you haven’t noticed it yet, the price of natural gas is expected to increase significantly this summer over previous years. Contract price for gas will average $4.75 to $5.50/mmBtu this year compared to $2.50 to $3.00 last year. That’s approaching a 100% increase for many industrial consumers. Spot prices will be 15-25% higher. These are prices at the wellhead. Customers must also pay transportation costs that will increase their burnerhead price.
Few plants today have the luxury of switching to oil, so reducing their operating costs with energy efficiency will become imperative. Coincidently, with the ending of the war, oil prices will stay at a low level this coming year. Current crude oil prices are ~$26/barrel, down from the high of $38. All scenarios have oil prices falling, with the worst case at <$20/ barrel, and the mean at $22 to $25, about where they were in the summer of 2001.
With the focus on energy efficiency, what does Hauck have to offer to maximize your profits under rising energy costs? Let’s start with radiant tube burners. There are lots of them out there, and many without recuperators. Solutions?
• Add a Radimax on each tube, up to 300,000 Btu/hr
• Replace straight tubes with SER’s
• Replace U-tubes operating with ineffective obsolete burners with the GTO version of the SER.
• Consider Hauck’s RTR system that operates on 6-in negative induced draft pressure, no pressure blower requirement, output to 500,000 Btu/hr, with a patented low NOx capability.
Control technologies also provide energy efficiency. Eliminate XS air, either that due to poor controls or designed for temperature uniformity. Alternatives?
• A mass flow control system
• Pulse firing (original design was for energy efficiency)
Additional burner alternatives also offer fuel efficiency. Add a recuperator, and use hot air burners. Several Hauck options include:
• BBG’s
• HMG’s
• SVG’s (all tile options)
Improve process efficiency by adding more convective heat transfer with these Hauck burners:
• SVG HR, HS and HC
• HMG’s
• EJC’s and get oil firing high velocity as well!
Proper maintenance is essential for achieving maximum fuel efficiency in combustion applications. Our service department is ready to assist you with keeping your equipment in peak operating condition.
Finally, arm yourself with information. Consider attending our e-solutions seminar, November 3 – 5, to learn more about sizing burners to achieve top performance.
Paybacks can be enormous at these prices. Most of the above changes can reduce energy consumption by a minimum of 15%. A customer using as little as 4000 mcf per month of gas on a furnace, at 15% savings, will save $36,000 per year at these new gas rates. That makes a lot of small furnaces candidates for these types of improvements.
These gas prices are not anticipated to recede in the next 2-3 years! Contracts at these prices are being written today for as much as 36 months into the future.
You need to become aware of this change overtaking the US gas market. This will not be a repeat of the last price swing. Prices, this time are expected to hold at the levels mentioned. Hauck has product and process improvements available to help you minimize the effects of these price changes.

… or at least at 15,400 feet (4700 meters)! Hauck Manufacturing Company has recently completed installation of a high altitude StarJet burner for an asphalt plant in one of the most remote corners of the world in Ali, Tibet. Located in western Tibet, Ali is known as the ‘roof of Tibet’ due to its high elevation. The average temperature is 37ºF (3ºC) with road construction temperatures ranging from 10ºF – 59ºF (–12ºC to 15ºC). The plant was needed to produce paving materials for a 50 mile (80 kilometer) roadway from Ali to Kunsha in the western region of Tibet.
According to Mr. Jack Marino, Hauck Vice President, “Our dealer in China told us they needed a version of the StarJet for their largest plant builder for a road construction project at 15,400 feet elevation. They also needed a firm guarantee that it would work, since no other burner in the Chinese market would work under these conditions.” For the SiKun Road department of the Tibet Tianlu Company, Ltd., Hauck sized a burner for the rarified atmosphere and designed a special atomizer to burn diesel oil (patent pending). The company guaranteed that the specially designed StarJet 520 would do the job – and it has!
Burning diesel oil, the plant is in operation for approximately 4 hours per day, producing 160 tons per hour of material.
For additional information on Hauck’s ability to provide solutions for asphalt applications, contact Jack Marino at (717) 272-3051 or via email at jmarino@hauckburner.com.
Hauck’s use of EdgeCAM software for CNC programming is featured on the ndx.com website. Hauck has recently been increasing its use of bar stock material for machining, increasing the company’s flexibility in manufacturing and reducing turnaround times. Long established production methods have been reprogrammed, greatly increasing the workload for CNC programming. The use of EdgeCAM has resulted in reductions in programming time making the company more responsive to customer requirements and has helped to boost business despite the recent downturns in the industry.

Hauck Manufacturing Company was selected in 2001 as one of the top 50 Best Places to Work in PA at an awards dinner held in Harrisburg, PA on November 29. The award, created in 2000 by the Ridge-Schweiker administration, is the first of its kind to be offered by a state. The program is a public/private partnership of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Team Pennsylvania Foundation, Kuntz Lesher LLP, Central Penn Business Journal, and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.
This survey and award program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania which benefit the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. The 100 Best Places to Work in PA program is comprised of two groups of companies: 50 medium size companies (50 to 250 employees) and 50 large size companies (251 or more employees). Hauck Manufacturing Company was honored in the medium category.
The firm was one of only 20 manufacturers honored in the top 100 firms. Hauck earned its ranking in the competition through a scoring process that considered the company's responses to a questionaire regarding corporate philosophies, practices and systems, and employee responses to a comprehensive survey that covered subjects such as benefits, working conditions, and growth opportunities.
The winners were chosen using the same formula as the Fortune "100 Best Companies to Work for in America".
